Kennedy Kariuki's penchant for adventure and the protection of nature has led him to work on different projects in East Africa focusing on issues ranging from wildlife research and management, to community capacity building, and public-private partnerships. He is a trained ecologist who has worked on different mammalian species spanning from cetaceans and primates to his current focus on large carnivores. Storytelling is an extremely useful tool in Kennedy's work, particularly in highlighting relationships between people and nature.

His 2019 early career grant from National Geographic and subsequent 2021 Jackson Wild and 2022 NEWF fellowships have greatly helped to consolidate his storytelling skills. He is currently working on setting up impact-based human-wildlife conflict mitigation initiatives, aimed at targeting different demographics of the communities living in close proximity to wildlife on a holistic approach. His work aims to combine robust scientific research, community capacity building and storytelling through high-value production short films to promote human-wildlife coexistence in the area.
